I feel like if cartoons don't have something interesting visually to look at (beside the incredible designs), the story/narrative should be able to keep the viewer interested. I always noticed that even when there isn't a lot happening in a scene of your cartoons, there's always some sort of hint at a narrative and it always improves the cartoon.
